| Face Villa and World Cup, Liverpool Down 2 Teams |
Liverpool - Liverpool have decided to stay in the English
League Cup. As a result lapse of a day, The Reds Liverpool fielded two
different teams because Liverpool also appeared in the Club World Cup.
Liverpool's escape to the quarterfinals of the English
League Cup last week caused a polemic. The duel against Aston Villa at Villa
Park is scheduled for December 17 or the day before the Club World Cup
semifinals.
Liverpool will appear in the competition with Champions
League status. Initially, Liverpool had asked for the English Football League
(EFL) to change the schedule to early January or Liverpool would step down.
Ready to Fight Villa team - Villa Park
However, after discussions over the past week, Liverpool
finally agreed to continue to appear on schedule to face Villa. As a
consequence, The Red Liverpool will field two teams within 24 hours.
There is a possibility Liverpool will bring their first team
to Doha, Qatar, to appear in the Club World Cup accompanied by Juergen Klopp.
Meanwhile, the Liverpool reserve team inhabited by many young players will be
deployed to face Villa with Pep Lijnders accompanying.
This decision was taken by Liverpool and the EFL to avoid
clashes with other schedules in January, such as the FA Cup and the English
League cup.
Quoted Opta, Liverpool last played an interval of 24 hours
while still trained Kenny Dalglish in December 1986. At that time Liverpool
lost 0-1 to Manchester United on Boxing Day before winning 1-0 over Sheffield
Wednesday the day after.
"This is not an ideal scenario but we have decided this
for the good of the competition, the two clubs, and also us," the
Liverpool official said.
